Project Overview

The website brings the history of Dublin’s 23 bridges to life online in one interactive digital archive which is the ideal resource for those wishing to learn more.

The website presents a comprehensive archive of rich content, including contemporary and historical imagery. A library of current and retrospective stories, contributed by the public, paints a fuller picture
of the connections that exist between the bridges and those living and working in the city. This content is updated regularly by the website’s administrative team through the integrated Content Management System (CMS), which also provides full management across the website.

The vast archives of content are made easily accessible by way of a mega menu navigation system. This instantly splits the user journey according to the visitor’s preference to learn about bridges of a particular function, in a specific location, by material composition or construction technique. An interactive timeline also enables visitors to choose a bridge from a defined period in Dublin’s history. Navigation by the visitor is assisted further by a site wide search facility and clear, clean typography which together ensure that the website is simple and intuitive for those of all levels of ability.

Built using responsive design techniques, the website renders sympathetically across mobile and tablet devices. Based on their location, website visitors can use these devices to browse the website’s content in an accessible and mobile friendly format, learn more about bridges in their immediate vicinity and be guided to others of possible interest.
